Well this really is not the way I thought this year was going to go!! It has been a very unsettling few weeks, with the news about covid 19 and it has completely change the way we live our lives. The way we can interact with family and friends, but also the impact it had on many craft people like myself. With shows cancelling or postponing until later in the year and galleries closing, incomes have disapeared overnight.
During March I was doing the instagram challenge #MarchMeet TheMaker 2020. Each day you had a prompt which you had to respond to, many of which took on a whole new meaning as news of the virus changed so rapidly.
One of the prompts towards the end of March was #future. At this point everything was slowly starting to close down, so it really seemed an unknown future. This prompt enabled me to take time sit down and formulate a plan, I now have this plan on my workshop wall and I am slowly working my way through it.
am very lucky that I have been able to go to my workshop, I share with Lizzie but she has set up a temporary workshop at home. This means I can get from my home to the workshop and back again without any contact, so keeping myself and others safe.
I have been making stock ready for when this is all over so I can hit those shows, with a fully stocked display! One of the positives is more time, this took a while to get used to and as my husband will confirm I don’t like sitting still and doing nothing! So I have a clean house, a nicely dug garden ready for veg, baking and cooking proper meals, which we have been eating at normal times, going for early morning runs and not feeling the pressure of not enough time!
Having this time has also given me space to develop new ideas for my ‘Home’ Series, which I am very excited about. It is an anxious time, we will probably never experience another peiod like this, so I am following government social distancing guidlines to protect my family and friends but also going with the flow and giving myself this time and seeing where is will lead!
If you would like to buy any of my work my online shop is open and during covid 19 government restrictions there will be free postage on all orders.
I hope you all stay safe and well and I will keep you posted with updates.
